Ginger Red Chutney

Ginger Red Chutney is one of the famous recipes from South India, with many variations. It is made of ginger, coconut and spices.

It is a very spicy chutney that goes well with all savoury South Indian breakfast varieties like idli or dosas.

Ginger Red Chutney

Ingredients:

1 sp Oil
1 sp Urad dal
6-7 Red chilli
1 sp Sesame seed
2-3 inches Ginger (skin removed, sliced)
Small cup coconut chunks
Salt to taste
Small size tamarind
1/4 cup water

Tempering :
1 sp oil
8-10 curry leaves
1/4 sp urad dal
Hing
1/4 sesame seed

Method:

  • In a pan over medium heat add oil, roast the urad dal till brown.
  • Then add red chilli and roast it
  • Then add sesame seed.
  • Let it cool down.
  • Transfer this to grinder jar, add coconut chunks, salt, tamarind , ginger and water. Grind make a fine paste.
  • Give tempering on chutney, enjoy with dose/idli.
